A bright attractive young woman in her 20s was
horrified at the suggestion she go to a movie alone. It was impossible for her
unless she found someone to join her.
Opal never thought much about my blogging about
being solo. But then, she realized she does many things alone and sometimes
even has a better experience than were she with someone. Haven’t we all been
somewhere with someone and thought we would have had a better time alone than
with the loser/whiner/bitchy person we are with? You fill in the blanks. There
are many ways a companion can spoil an evening.
One of Opal’s more recent solo events was to
drive 120 miles for a concert, alone. This was one where she had more fun than
had the person who was supposed to attend with her had been there. Closer to
home Opal thinks nothing of attending a movie alone or establishing her own
territory at coffee shops.
This week I am preparing to leave for a week in
our nation’s capital. There are some decisions I wish I could bounce off someone. Sometimes the responsibility is overwhelming.
So can be the day-to-day living at home. There are consequences of decisions we
make regardless of where we are and what we do so why not let go of the fear of
a wrong or bad decisions and explore, experience life.
